About This Spot

Walking into Aki Asian Restaurant feels like stepping into a quietly welcoming local gem, tucked away on W Lackawanna Avenue in Olyphant. The space carries the gentle hum of familiarity—clean, cozy, and thoughtfully redesigned to invite lingering conversations over shared plates. There’s an unhurried rhythm here, where the day’s pace slows just enough to savor moments, flavors, and company.

The atmosphere strikes a comforting balance between casual ease and attentive care. It’s a spot where the details matter quietly: the soft glide of chopsticks, the comforting warmth of a bowl of soup gently steamed to the table, and the subtle zing in the house’s ginger dressing that adds a little unexpected lift. Whether it’s a weekday evening or a casual weekend outing, the welcoming staff make navigating the menu feel like a friendly exchange, tuning dishes to your tastes and spicing preferences with kindness and calm expertise.

Food at Aki flows naturally from the menu’s diverse roots, wrapping you in flavors both fresh and familiar. From colorful rolls that invite sharing and discovery, to satisfyingly rich bento boxes layered with tender teriyaki, it’s the kind of place where each dish encourages you to slow down and appreciate the textures and seasonings as they unfold. The bubble tea selection offers a playful, sweet finish that complements a meal without rushing the experience.

Here, the joy is found in simple human moments—the laughter over a shared plate of sweet potato tempura, the quiet appreciation of a steaming bowl of ramen on a cooler evening, the gentle exchange between server and guest that makes getting a meal feel personal rather than transactional. Aki Asian Restaurant is less about spectacle and more about the comfortable warmth of a neighborhood spot where quality and genuine care draw you back time and again.

It is a cozy and clean restaurant. I like how they remodeled the place. Prices are about average for the type of food they serve. I had the Teriyaki Chicken. It came with a salad with ginger dressing. It was a good ginger dressing with a touch of something a little different in it than I am used to. Whatever it was, it was good. It also came with Miso soup, but I ended up trading my son for his clear broth soup because his clear broth had too many mushrooms in it for him. It had a lot of flavor to it. The chicken was served on a hot skillet with the sauce rapidly bubbling. It was a large portion of chicken with a nice amount of scallions and onions under it. The sauce had a nice consistency (it wasn't watery, but not gravy like) and flavor that was just right. Everything was fresh and good quality. My son liked his soup and California rolls. The only thing he mentioned is the rolls came apart easy when trying to eat them with chop sticks. He had no problem when using his fingers. He also had Thai bubble tea with bobas. I tried it and it was delicious. We might just stop by for a bubble tea to go every once in a while. Overall, I really liked it and will be stopping back to try the Yaki Udon. ---Update--- The Shrimp Yaki Udon is delicious. There are a few more shrimp under the noodles in the pic that I dug out while I was eating. Just like last time, my plate was clean when I was done. My son loves the California Rolls. I tried a coconut with milk bubble tea and it was delicious. They are huge. I didn't finish it, but they have to go cups. Service was excellent. I am told that these are the employees (not owners) from another place that closed because the rent was suddenly jacked up way too high. They banded together to start their own restaurant. Their quality food and pride in their restaurant show that they are invested in this place. I hope they are around for many years to come. 2023 and still good. No more skillets. Just regular plates.

My girlfriend and I ate there on a Monday evening. She has fresh delicious sushi and I had pad Thai with chicken. The server was very friendly and efficient. She asked about the level of spice for my dish which I greatly appreciated. Highly recommend

Prices are fair for what you get and all the sushi rolls we get from here are great. The lunch special is a great deal, but even dinner is reasonable. Very friendly and consistent. A great place to get sushi and try new stuff too!

The food very much makes up for the atmosphere. The dining room was warm, but there are very few isolated tables and a very small dining room. Food however was delicious! I would totally get their food again. I can't complain in that regard. An important point I would make is that the soda is 'pay per glass'. I did not know that when I ordered multiple refills...
